My career has not followed a traditional accounting path.
After college, I moved to China and taught English. Living and working abroad taught me how to adapt quickly, communicate across differences, and become comfortable figuring things out without a roadmap.
When I returned to the United States, I moved into office management and business operations. Like many people working in small businesses, I ended up wearing a lot of hats: bookkeeping, collections, purchasing, customer support, HR administration, vendor management, inventory support, and whatever else needed attention that day.
Over time, accounting became the work I enjoyed most. I found that I liked solving problems, organizing information, and helping people understand what was actually happening behind the numbers.
In 2015, I started my own accounting practice and have spent the years since supporting small businesses and nonprofit organizations with bookkeeping, reconciliations, financial reporting, and accounting cleanup projects.
Along the way, I also worked in a CPA and tax office environment supporting individual tax preparation and related workpapers. That experience strengthened my understanding of how day-to-day bookkeeping connects to tax reporting and long-term financial outcomes.
Several years later, my family relocated to India for a period of time. While living abroad, I continued supporting U.S.-based accounting clients remotely. Maintaining continuity across time zones and continents reinforced something I had already learned: reliable accounting depends less on location than it does on consistency, communication, and attention to detail.
Today, I continue to operate my own practice while also supporting a fractional CFO firm in a part-time capacity. My work focuses on helping organizations build financial systems they can trust and producing reporting that is useful for real-world decisions.
Looking back, the common thread through all of these experiences is simple: I enjoy stepping into situations that are unclear, understanding how they work, and creating systems that make them run better.
